Minor Prophecies on the Cheap

The opposite of January is salt. Fear not

what your country can do for you, but what you

can fear for your country. There have been prophecies

made that were influenced by dietary distress,

in the same way that national borders have been

drawn with cartographic aesthetics in mind.

Santa Claus has a GDP but we’re all too chickenshit

to calculate it. To imagine takes energy and that too

can be measured, in joules but also time-cost

and opportunity cost. Every day a new painting is made

and the Earth decides to trash it. Rotates it anyway.

Planned obsolescence, compostable utensils.

A mission statement is just a promise to fail

in a particular way. Yes, we loved as hard as we could,

but the sea level rose anyway. A calendar is wasteful

in regard to sustainability: it is clear that the enemy is time.
