Writer’s Guidelines

Given our anti-capitalist stance, we want the poetry that means the most to you, regardless of marketability or monetary concerns. Theme and subject matter are up to you. Anyone can send poems – we’re particularly interested in hearing from poets of traditionally marginalized, vulnerable, or disenfranchised groups and backgrounds (women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodivergent, poor and working class, etc.). We don’t charge submission or contest fees, and we never will. We pay $10 to each featured poet via Paypal or Venmo.

Please send 3-7 unpublished poems in a single attachment with your name in the filename to poetrycurrency@gmail.com (no Google Docs/Google Drive links, please). Bio is optional, but we’ll ask for one if we publish you. Our publishing model features 2+ poems by a given author (or set of collaborative authors), so we may ask to see more of your poems if we’re especially taken with just one piece you send. These additional poems could potentially be previously published, provided they aren’t already available online.

We’ll treat your work with respect, and we ask that you respond in kind. We understand you probably send poems multiple places simultaneously, and that’s welcome here. We generally respond within a month, so please feel free to query if you haven’t heard from us in that time. Please wait at least six months to send poems again unless we ask to see more. Don’t be abusive. Any behavior that fails basic decency may result in all future messages being deleted unread.
