The Good Enough Mother

The baby cries          because its mother

doesn’t know          how to hold it right. Holding

is a form of love. The good enough

mother is reliable.          She merges with the infant.

There are those          who can hold an infant

and those who cannot. A good          enough mother

can be taught to do better.          Who holds

the mother. If          the mother isn’t          good

enough          the baby cries. Some mothers

can’t be helped.
